Mark first to avoid mistakes later

Resist the temptation to use regular ink, crayon, or chalkboard chalk when transferring pattern markings. It may solve the problem in the short term, but getting them out of the fabric may prove more difficult than you expected. Instead use marking pens, marking pencils, or tailors chalk designed for use on fabric.
