Turn your fabric scraps into a fun & functional tote bag
Create an easy and colorful tote bag with 2-1/2" fabric strips and an innovative template. Use leftover fabrics to give your tote panels a scrappy look, or purchase a fabric strip pack for a tote in coordinated colors.   Enter the quantity you wish to order of each item. Discover a simple way to customize tote bag panels in your favorite colors. - Choose and prepare fabrics. You'll need a total of 26 strips cut 2-1/2" wide for the front and back panels, sides, bottom, and handles of the bag. Stabilize all fabrics using a starch or starch alternative, such as Mary Ellen's Best Press. This reduces the stretch of the fabric and provides more accurate results.
- Assemble patchwork strata by making two stacks of four strips each. Sub-cut each stack into 5" segments, and sew together to create sets. Repeat until all segments have been paired. Press seams open, then flat, using your iron and a Tailor's Clapper. Sew 5 sets together to create a long patchwork strip. Repeat with remaining sets to create a total of 6 patchwork strips.
- Pair fabric strips to create strata. Mark center point of one patchwork strip and center point of one uncut fabric strip with pins. Meet right sides together, matching pin marks. Sew together down long edge. Press seams flat, then open. Repeat with remaining patchwork strips and uncut strips, making a total of 6 strata.
- Cut blocks using Twisted Triangles Template, aligning marks on the template with seams of strata. Cut a total of 50 blocks.
- Arrange blocks to create tote panels. Arrange 25 blocks each for the front and back panels of the bag, in 5 rows of 5 blocks each. Sew blocks together in each row, then join rows to complete two panels. Press all seams flat, then open, as seams are joined.
