If you would like added security when wearing the Creative Kindness Bandanna, the Creative Kindness Beret, hats or scarves, consider wearing your headcover with a headband underneath. Let the headband peek out in the front, sides and in the back, creating the illusion of hair and minimizing slippage.
Note from Nancy: For utmost comfort, this headband is specially designed with no exposed seams.
- To make a 3-1/2"-wide (finished) headband, simply cut a rectangle of stretchy knit fabric, 8" wide by 21" (20" for small, 22" for large). If in doubt about size, make the largest and custom fit later (see Step 3).

Fabric recommendations: Nancy’s Notions ponté knit works well for firm headbands (shown in the photos here), whereas ribbing makes a much softer, stretchier band. Resilient Lycra®-blend knits work well, too. If extra warmth is desired, try using lightweight fleece, such as Polartec® 100.
- Fold the rectangle in half, lengthwise, right sides together. Serge or zigzag a generous 1/4" seam along the longer edges, forming a tube. (If you have a straight-stitch-only machine, sew the seam twice: first 1/4", then 1/8" from the edges.)

- Turn the tube right side out. Lightly press the tube flat, centering the seam.

If possible, fit the band to the wearer, making any seam depth adjustments necessary. (Custom fitting will compensate for variances in the fabric stretch and weight.)
- Straight stitch the two short ends, right sides together and using a 1/2" seam allowance; match the press marks to align the seam ends. Leave about a 2-1/2" opening on the under (seamed) side.

To minimize bulk, finger press the allowances open. Center the longer headband seamline on the underside of the headband. Handstitch to close the seam opening. From the right side, stitch-in-the-ditch to secure the centered seam position and keep the allowances flat.
