Confessions of a Tote Bag Collector!

by Beth Cooper

Hey, friends! Today I am sharing a tale of collection, creativity, and the pursuit of more tote bags.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been captivated by the allure of tote bags and purses. There’s something undeniably satisfying about choosing the perfect bag. I specifically love organizational bags and totes. Ones that neatly arrange my tools and supplies into designated compartments, ready to be whisked away at a moment’s notice for a sewing adventure. However, little did I know that my love affair with these sweet little beauties would soon evolve into a full-blown addiction collection. I love leather tote bags, canvas tote bags, large tote bags, small tote bags, etc. You show me a tote bag and I will find a use for it!

These Glam Bags are absolutely adorable! I love them all! Shop the entire collection on Missouri Star Quilt Co. or click here!

It all started innocently enough. When I was in my early twenties, I fell in love with purses. After purses, I fell in love with tote bags. This was around the time it was becoming common to use reusable shopping bags instead of plastic bags at the store. It was also around the time that a company called “31” was popular in my area. I loved 31 bags! This was my introduction to using bags for organization.

I have multiple of these fabric storage bags. And guess what, I use them for fat quarters but also thread! These bags are super handy! Find them on Missouri Star Quilt Co. or click here!

I purchased a beautifully crafted tote bag designed specifically for organizing sewing supplies. It was pretty and functional! With its myriad of pockets and compartments, I felt like a magician, effortlessly pulling out a sewing notion from exactly where it should be.

And don’t get me started on sewing your own tote bags! Sewing tote bags is even more fun than buying them. If you’re looking for bag patterns, click here!

Before I knew it, my collection of tote bags and purses had multiplied, each one serving a specific purpose – from organizing fat quarters to housing embroidery threads of every color imaginable. It was as if I had stumbled into a vortex of organizational bliss, unable to resist the temptation of yet another perfectly compartmentalized storage solution.

From there I discovered the biggest and best bag I have ever purchased. The Tutto Sewing Machine Tote. These bad boys (I say that affectionately) are the best thing since sliced bread. They wheel effortlessly and allow me to transport my huge Baby Lock Crescendo sewing machine around (almost) as easily as my Featherweight. Bag perfection, in my opinion.

These are two example of the Tutto sewing machine carrier. The Kaffe Fassett design on the left and the Tula Pink design on the right. Two beauties! Find them on Missouri Star Quilt Co. or click here!

I should also mention that I also adore any kind of bag that has a sewing machine on it or a sewing theme. You could pretty much sell me anything if it has a sewing machine embroidered, appliqued, or screen-printed on it. That’s the truth.

So, my dear friends, if you too find yourself drawn to the siren song of tote bags with sewing machines on them, a purse that says “Having Sew Much Fun!”, and organizational bags for your notions, fear not. You are not alone. I am right there with you.

Until next time, happy sewing!

Beth
